The Bell Artspace Campus project transformed multiple historic school structures into 79 affordable live-work housing units.
Located in New Orleans’ historic Treme neighborhood, the long-vacant former Andrew J. Bell and Ben Franklin schools encompassed 108,000 square feet.
The Bell School’s main building is a stunning Gothic structure built in 1904 as St. Joseph’s Academy. The former Bell campus also includes later buildings added to house the school’s cafeteria, library, and second-floor gym; these structures together contain 51 of the project’s one- and two-bedroom apartments.
The Ben Franklin school building was built in 1927, and now contains 23 units with unique floor plans and modern amenities that can be enjoyed in conjunction with the structure’s original features, including large windows, high ceilings, exposed brick, and wood floors.
