Jesse Duplantis, an American Evangelical preacher, partnered with Gibbs through a design-build contract to develop and construct a new private aviation hangar that serves as a protected enclosed storage and aircraft maintenance facility.
Located within the secured perimeter of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, the Duplantis Hanger is a 12,400-square-foot pre-engineered metal building sporting a 90-foot-wide electric lift-strap bi-fold door.
Implanted on the slightly sloped elevation of an existing taxi tarmac, Gibbs creatively solved the foundation design challenge of maintaining a level structure built on an angled site. Prohibited from cutting into the paving, the design team developed a wedge-like concrete chain wall to support the envelope’s rigid framed columns. With coordination and planning, water and power were brought from adjacent utility sources through this high-security environment to the building.
Gibbs’ experience in constructing over a half-a-dozen aircraft hangars has added to our pre-engineered metal structure portfolio and further developed our working knowledge building on highly secured sites. With good fortune, we have since had the opportunity to construct the new neighboring billion-dollar Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport terminal.
