B.B. King’s Blues Club

HistoricHospitality

Since 1976, Gibbs Construction has been the team behind the buildings where we all work and play, grow up, grow smart, and grow old. We're the hardhats you've seen on almost every campus, on every corner. The group behind the Superdome re-skin. The Smoothie King Arena. The Audubon Institute's Cool Zoo. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. We work to ensure that every project we touch truly becomes part of the neighborhoods we love.

Memphis’s Beale Street Blues Company partnered with Gibbs Construction through a design-assist negotiated contract to expand the locations of their  BB  King’s Blues Clubs within the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter.

In order for this hospitality venue to capitalize on sales during the upcoming holidays, this fast-paced entertainment renovation was completed within budget in just 90 days, ensuring the owner a quick grand opening of their new location.

Construction began with the demolition of the previous tenant space and led to the structural modifications that were crucial in this century-old building, along with the relocation of the elevator shaft. Additional improvements included building code upgrades to the MEP systems, installation of new mezzanine stair egress and wheelchair lift, and rebuilding of the monumental staircase. To mirror the aesthetics of their existing clubs, construction continued with custom carpentry and millwork, refinishing balcony railings, and installation of flooring.

This tight urban site experienced the inherent challenges associated with little to no lay-down space, vehicular traffic, and pedestrian congestion which led to deliberately scheduling deliveries and trash haul-offs.

The new home of B.B. King’s Blues Club in the historic French Quarter seamlessly contributes to the musical and culinary heritage that defines New Orleans.
