OUR PROJECTS

Gretna Fire Station 1

Government

Since 1976, Gibbs Construction has been the team behind the buildings where we all work and play, grow up, grow smart, and grow old. We're the hardhats you've seen on almost every campus, on every corner. The group behind the Superdome re-skin. The Smoothie King Arena. The Audubon Institute's Cool Zoo. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. We work to ensure that every project we touch truly becomes part of the neighborhoods we love.

Gibbs Project View

The City of Gretna awarded Gibbs the low-bid contract as general contractor for the new construction of Gretna Fire Station #1, which is located in the heart of the city and is the central command center for the Gretna Fire Department.

Situated on an adjacent property to the existing David Crockett Fire Company Anthony J. “Tony” Labruzza Memorial Fire Station, the 22,775-square-foot complex houses a 9,450-square-foot pre-engineered metal apparatus bay connected to a two-story firehouse that serves as a gateway into Historic Downtown Gretna.

Unlike a traditional fire station, Trapolin Peer Architects designed an escalated facility scale that can serve its community as a true civic building. With its prominent location on Lafayette Street, entry points and programs strategically allow for multiple functions to occur simultaneously. Programs additional to the living quarters for firemen and office space include administrative office headquarters, a gym, two private day rooms, assembly space, and a commercial kitchen accessible to the public for larger-scale events. A brick masonry facade conceals the concrete masonry unit wall at the entrance of this firehouse. Exposed poured-in-place concrete walls scattered throughout this design highlight the modern architectural features of this structure.

This project is the result of several years of hard work and dedication from Mayor Constance, Chief Labruzza, Councilman Rau, and the dedicated public personnel at the City of Gretna. Gibbs looks forward to working on future endeavors with our trusted team, Trapolin Peer Architects, and Burk-Kleinpeter.
