EducationalHistoric RenovationRenovation

Since 1976, Gibbs Construction has been the team behind the buildings where we all work and play, grow up, grow smart, and grow old. We're the hardhats you've seen on almost every campus, on every corner. The group behind the Superdome re-skin. The Smoothie King Arena. The Audubon Institute's Cool Zoo. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. We work to ensure that every project we touch truly becomes part of the neighborhoods we love.

Gibbs Project View

Gibbs Construction, as part of a joint venture with VPG Construction, was engaged by Xavier University of Louisiana as a design-build contractor to aid in the assessment and repair of aging buildings on their campus, including two dormitories: St. Martin de Porres and the Living Learning Center.

  • The first project, the St. Martin de Porres dorm (SMD), involved a full renovation of 260 dorm rooms, mechanical systems, and all building finishes after discovering worse than anticipated conditions.
  • Through extensive collaboration with the owner and our JV partner, VPG, we completed the project a month ahead of schedule. Given the active university site, stringent safety measures were essential to protect students and staff throughout the construction process.
  • The successful delivery of this project paved the way for VPG Gibbs to continue upgrading the university’s campus housing. The Living Learning Center (LLC) was next in the process, which required extensive foundation repairs. Gibbs collaborated with a shoring specialist, Abry Brothers, to devise an innovative, cost-saving solution to repairing and reinforcing the heavily damaged pilings.
  • The team then turned to renovating the interior, completing the project ahead of schedule in time for students to move in for the fall 2025 semester.
